One classic misunderstanding in Iceland is that there is a problem with the plumbing in bathrooms. If you know nothing about our heating, this is totally normal. Now let us clear up this misunderstanding and introduce you to the wonders of geothermal energy.
The short version is that in Iceland we do not use gas or anything else to heat our water, houses or food. We simply use natural geothermal water in our sinks. It smells like rotten eggs at worst, slightly sulphurus at best.
But this is also how we heat our houses. The radiators and the rooms at the hotel have geothermal water running through them, not electricity. Super cool, right? We think so. And we don´t notice the smell that much anymore. So you should just come over more often and the smell won´t bother you anymore. Trust us. It´s the only way :)
