Many greetings and Happy New Year to all our guests, current, former and future! 2015 is already looking like THE year for us at Kvosin Downtown Hotel.
We have a well booked hotel in the season formerly known as low-season and currently known as Northern Lights season. We have finally opened the long awaited Klaustur Downtown Bar where we proudly serve the most outstanding wines of any bar in town in a relaxed and cozy setting. It was about time our guests could get a bit tipsy without leaving the premises. We do have a kitchen but we will move very slowly towards the best snack menu in the land over the next few weeks.
Additionally, we will finish work on the last 10 apartments in the hotel in the next two months so we will be in full swing for the upcoming summer season. We´re all very excited about the new year around here as you can tell from this.
The new year has started with some perfectly Icelandic winter weather, snowing with 5 minute pauses to see the skies. This has made Northern Lights sightings a little scarce but our lives a little more bareable in the winter darkness. The snow really does replace the sunshine when it´s around. The wind, we could do without.
January and February are the time of year when our guests have to live with the elements and not ignore them so changing itineraries are commonplace and it gives the whole experience a little sense of adventure we think. That´s when having a hotel bar comes in handy. When going on a long excursion out of town is impossible due to weather, it is always good to have access to the museums and galleries in town or taking in a live show at Harpa or a small public house on the main drag, Laugavegur.
Oh, and we are finally getting to grips with Pinterest and the fun that can be had there. So please check us out over there if you have a minute or 300!
Personally, I have settled well into my new location, in the corner next to the concierge desk, as opposed to the adjacent building, having to e-mail or live chat tasks to the concierge team. I can now "overhear" any little issues you are having in your stay and put in my two cents when needed since eyes see things better than an eye. That´s an Icelandic proverb that translates horribly! I shouldn´t have written that. Where is the back button?
Well, I hope you are all well and looking forward to the year ahead and as always now, come by for a warm Nespresso anytime so we can make your visit outstanding.
Warm regards,
Snorri
