It´s time for a very practical post on here. One of the most frequent question asked by our guests is about parking in front of the hotel. So here goes:
With super location comes the problem of parking availability. Kvosin does not own any private parking for our guests but right in front of the hotel, there are several parking spots owned by the city and charged by the city. There is usually a good turnover in the spots in front of the hotel so with a couple of minutes patience, you should be able to get one close to the hotel. Compared to other Scandinavian cities, you pay peanuts here but there are several things to consider.
Parking In short:
-Machines DO take credit cards (and coins of course)
-There are 2 zones to consider in the center of town.
-Zone 1 is 225isk per hour. = Kvosin Zone + Main street (Laugavegur)
-Zone 2 is 120isk per hour. = Side Streets in all downtown
-City Hall Parking Garage is 100 meters from the hotel. Cheaper than normal parking*
-Zone1 and 2 hours are 9am-6pm Weekdays, 10am-4pm Saturdays, Sundays are free.
-Payment is taken by machine close to the parking. You display the receipt for payment in the front window of the car to avoid fines.
*But you do pay 24 hours a day
Fines:
-2500isk for legal parking without ticket (if you pay immediately in a bank you get away with 1400isk)
-5000isk for illegally parking (sidewalk etc.)
-Car rentals get your ticket if you don´t pay and will charge you at least 2000isk extra administration fee, plus the ticket.
Cheats:
-Zone 1, if you are going to keep your car all day in front of the hotel, you will need to pay 2025isk for that. However, if you just get the ticket and pay it within 3 days in a bank, you pay only 1400isk, saving yourself 625isk.
-The machine will only charge you for periods that are payable so if you are paying at 5pm, you can already pay until the time you want to take the car the next day. The machine will stop charging at 6pm and pick up the charge from 9am the next day automatically.
We hope that helps you perpare for your parking needs in Reykjavik and look forward to answering any questions you may have.
