A Kvosin Concierge loves nothing more than to recommend something to guests that cannot go wrong. Reykjavik is full of very good restaurants but only a select few rarely disappoint, if ever! That is like gold to us. Needless to say, these are almost always full, especially during weekends and special occasions so please plan ahead and have us book you a table well in advance. Here are the four restaurants we can recommend with full confidence and trust that you will enjoy if not utterly fall in love with.
The Fish Company: Located in a cellar only 3 minutes walk from the hotel, this is a great restaurant for those who like to see their food delicious but with an international twist. All their dinner courses are connected with a certain country, Iceland most certainly being one of them and Icelandic ingredients even more certainly a part of the ingredients. With knowledgeable waiters and a cozy atmosphere that somehow both covers couples and business partners out for some fun, this mountain cabin in the cellar is pretty much a slam dunk! And no, they don´t just serve fish. We´ll be saying that a lot in this post.
Fish Market: A stable of the culinary scene for over 10 years now, this is a place that is known for great Icelandic seafood but also some of the best sushi in town. They also serve pork, puffin and even minke whale, if that is your cup of tea. They probably also have tea! This place is located even closer to the hotel, only 90 seconds walk. Great on a freezing evening.
The Seafood Grill: The only thing this place has against it compared to the other three, is that it takes about 5 minutes longer to walk there. We think it is extremely well worth it. Located on the quaint Skólavörðurstígur (the "side" main street leading up to the church tower), this place does everything extremely well, especially friendly "nothing-is-too-much-trouble" attitude. Did we mention they don´t only serve seafood? Well, they even make it extra easy for you. You can just choose a feast, Grill, Fish, Lobster or Veggie. We love the Seafood Grill and you will too. Open for lunch as well.
The Grillmarket: This place was very much anticipated when it opened about 3 years ago and it has yet to slow down. Located only 2 minutes walk from the hotel, it´s a dark and rustic oasis of scandinavian cool design and the food ain´t bad either. With a slightly smaller emphasis on seafood than the others, you can get meat skewers, feasts and some of the exotic game courses like duck, reindeer and duck. Out of the four restaurants, this is by far the most popular and most difficult to book a table at. That is not necessarily a reflection of their superiority. We tend to think they are pretty much all awesome!
Did we already tell you to tell us to tell them we need a table for you? Well, we´re telling you now! So let us know. Cheers!
